SD 8.0 is official: SD Express cards four times faster

The group SD Association has just announced a real revolution designed primarily for professionals: the new standard SD 8.0 for cards SD Express. This technology will allow users to be able to transfer data with a speed of almost 4 GB per second.

The new standard is based on interfaces NVMe e PCIe 4.0, especially common in solid state drives. SD cards of this type will especially help professionals who deal with photos and videos. Suffice it to say that, with the continuous technological renewals, i 8K video that take up a lot of space. Video makers will now be able to transfer files in seconds thanks to SD 8.0.



SD Association has communicated that the new standard allows a transfer of well 3.938 megabytes per second. SD 7.0 and 7.1 (with PCIe 3.1) ensure a transfer rate of 985 megabytes per second.

The new standard will be available on memory cards DHC, S e SDUC. For the moment, SD cards of this type are not yet available: we will have to wait for manufacturers to start implementing the standard. There are currently several SD and microSD cards with previous technologies available on Amazon (which still ensure excellent quality), including 64GB Sandisk Extreme, 128GB SanDisk Ultra, 64GB Samsung Evo Plus and Sandisk Extreme Pro up to 512 GB.
