    If you need to use slides from two or more PowerPoint presentations for your school assignment or office presentation, there are several ways to do this. You can insert single slides, import entire presentations or simply merge two presentations. Let's take a closer look at how to merge PowerPoint files.

    Reuse slides

    Reusing slides is the easiest way to include slides from one presentation into another. With this method, you can control which slides you are adding and choose where to insert them. Here's how the slide reuse method works.

    1. Launch PowerPoint on your computer, then open the document you want to add slides to.
    2. Find where you want to add one or more slides. Then, click between two existing slides.
    3. Click the Insert section of the main menu.
    4. Next, click on the New Slide icon on the left side of the menu.
    5. Click Reuse Slides.
    6. The Reuse Slides dialog opens. Click the Browse button. If you check the box next to Keep source formatting, the newly inserted slides will remain as they were in the original presentation. If you uncheck the box, their formatting will be adapted to that of the main presentation.
    7. Insert your slide. Browse through the presentations and click the one you want to add slides from. Click Open.

    You will see thumbnails of the available slides. Browse and select the ones you want to insert into the main document. You can click Insert All Slides to import all slides from the external presentation.

    If you want to discard the theme of your main presentation in favor of the theme in the external presentation, you should select the Apply theme to all slides option when selecting the slides you want to insert.

    This method is great if you want to add a slide or two to your main presentation. Plus, if you want to add snippets of various presentations to your main presentation, this is the way to go. 

    While it is possible to insert all slides from an external presentation via this method, it is best to follow the Insert Object path for this.

    The object insertion method is the best option if you want to insert all slides from an external presentation and keep the animations and transitions between them.

    Note that once you insert the slides into the new presentation, they won't be linked to the original file. Therefore, any changes made to the original file will not affect the slides inserted in the main presentation. 

    Conversely, if you edit the slides in the main presentation, the external file from which you copied those slides will remain unchanged.

    That said, let's see how the object insertion method works.

    1. Start PowerPoint and open the main presentation.
    2. Insert a new slide. Delete the text boxes, as they should be completely empty.
    3. Click the Insert tab on the main menu.
    4. Click the Object icon.
    5. Click Create File, then click Browse. You will see the Insert Object dialog box. There, you should choose the Create from File option. You can enter the document address in the text box and press Enter or click the Browse button.
    6. Find the external presentation you want to insert into the main presentation and double-click on it.

    After that, you will only see the first slide of the imported presentation. While you can't see them at the moment, the remaining slides are below.

    Stretches the inserted object to fit the slide size of the main presentation to avoid changes to the size of the slides once the presentation is played.

     Once you've successfully inserted the entire object into your main presentation, you can adjust and edit it to make sure it works smoothly.

    Merge documents

    Finally, you can choose to completely merge two PowerPoint presentations into one. Here's how this method works:

    1. Open PowerPoint and open the main presentation.
    2. Click the Review section of the main menu.
    3. Click the Compare button. You will find it in the Compare section.
    4. Search for the presentation you want to merge with the main presentation. Select it by double clicking on it.

    Once the merge is complete, you will see the Track Changes pane to the right of the merged presentations. In the Presentation changes section, you will see the differences between the presentations and choose which changes you want to keep and which to discard.

    The Slide Changes portion shows the differences between the individual slides of the two presentations. Choose the settings you want to keep for the final version.

    Drag and drop

    One of the simplest ways to merge two presentations is to use a drag and drop method. If you have two separate presentations that you would like to do in one, or if you are working on a group project, you can merge them together using this feature.

    Open both presentations on your PC or Mac and be sure to minimize the PowerPoint program so you can see both at the same time. Using the mouse, long press the slide you need to move

    You may need to do this for each slide, or you can click on the first slide, hold down the Shift key, and click on the last slide to move the entire set into the final presentation.

    Drop the slide into its correct position. The position of the slide will be highlighted with a red line.

    To make things even easier; your final presentation will automatically update to the design of the receipt document. Of course, you can always update the design of the entire document by using the Design feature at the top of the presentation.
