When we search for content on Instagram, we run the risk of seeing things we don't want to see in our search bars. Here's how to get rid of it.
Many of us spend hours not thinking about scrolling through Instagram every single day. When done right, it can be an incredibly relaxing experience, with Instagram being one of the best places on the internet to find a lot of positive content.
However, if done wrong, we can also enter a toxic rabbit hole. We end up looking for content that not only interferes with our algorithm, but also appears every time we type something in the search bar.
Deleting your search history is also a way to tell Instagram that you are no longer interested in this particular type of content. If you avoid searching for it again, you can teach Instagram to stop showing you related content and give you more things you want.
Fortunately, you can get rid of it quite easily. You will find out how to clear your Instagram search history in this article.
Steps to clear Instagram search history
If you're wondering how to hide awkward and oddly specific content that you gorge on when it's past midnight and you can't sleep, here's a quick way to clear your Instagram search history.
While Instagram doesn't give you the option to clear your search history directly from your app, it is possible from your browser. To do this, go to and log into your account.
After logging in, click on your profile picture. Then, go to Settings> Privacy and security.
Next, under Account Data, click View Account Data. Then, under Account Activity, go to Search History and select View All. From here, you can see the accounts, locations, or hashtags you have recently searched for.
Finally, click on Clear Search History. Confirm your popup decision by selecting Clear All.
