After launching the excellent Samsung Note 20 on the market, Samsung has certainly not slept on its laurelsi, offering the new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G, a top-of-the-range smartphone with a slightly more reasonable price point than its big brother S20 Plus, but which keeps its peculiar main features intact. This "Fan Edition" therefore tries to embrace all those users determined more than ever to buy a top-of-the-range Samsung phone, without necessarily having to spend very high amounts, and in this in our opinion, it fully succeeds, especially with the Samsung Galaxy S20 version. FE 5G with Snapdragon 865 processor.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G is offered at a list price starting from 769 euros, against the 949 of the S20 and the 1099 of the S20 +, however, the S20 FE 5G can already be easily found at more competitive prices on Amazon, a reason that increases the interest of a product that is still more than excellent for the target it wants to aim at.

Design and ergonomics

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G is certainly a very aesthetically pleasing smartphone. On the market it is possible to find it in 6 different colors: Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Red, Cloud White, Cloud Orange and the one in our possession, the Cloud Navy. To the touch the phone gives the sensation of being less solid than the S20 and S20 +, the main reason is derived from its shell entirely in polycarbonate, abandoning the glass. The reason behind this decision concerns more than anything else the possibility of lowering the overall price.

However, the back cover has been well thought out, in fact we have not noticed too many fingerprints and the general aspect is satisfying enough. Clearly the initial feeling in the hand could leave you unsatisfied, but you easily get used to its ergonomics: in our test days it was really a pleasure to use it. It should be noted that the overall weight is slightly higher than the S20, which weighed 186 grams against the 190 grams of this S20 FE 5G.

It is very thin, uses a stereo speaker and a port at the base USB Type-C for fast charging. To help in this there is a 15W adapter present inside the package, however it must be emphasized that the phone also supports 25W power supplies. The SIM tray is present in the upper part with the possibility of dual SIM or expanding the memory up to 1 Tb, together with it it is possible to find the second stereo speaker.

In general, Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G measures 74 x 159.8 x 8.4 mm, making it slightly smaller than the S20 +, but also guaranteeing IP68 waterproof certification in this case, in addition to Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 6 support.

The display is a Super Amoled that is beautiful to look at and use, thanks above all to the lockable 120Hz, which are all noticeable and greatly improve the daily use of the phone itself. The 6.5-inch screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 px does not guarantee the same performance as the S20 and S20 +, but it does not disappoint expectations: clear in conditions of strong external brightness, it reflects little and integrates a biometric sensor for fast digital fingerprint reading. and accurate.

In terms of performance, we can only talk to you positively about this Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G, which uses the Snapdrag0n 865 - be careful not to confuse it with the 4G version that mounts the Exynos 990 - related from 6 GB of RAM. As for the processor there is very little to say, praised several times and undoubtedly one of the best chips that can be found on a modern smartphone, at least until today. The same guarantees excellent performance, with practically zero uncertainties and always showing itself reactive, even in more complex conditions such as gaming, where the screen refresh rate set at 120Hz releases all its fluidity.

Speaking briefly of autonomy, this S20 FE has not failed to meet expectations. The phone uses a 4.500 mAh battery, that thanks to the processor significantly improves the duration by reducing consumption and thus allowing to reach the end of the day even with a rather intense use of the device. In our test the phone lasted about 7 hours with the display active, using it for calls, photography and the internet.

The operating system is Android 10 with ONE UI 2.5, consequently with very few diversifications compared to the corresponding S20. We have the side menu, the customization of the night mode and many other features already present in the other components of the Galaxy S20 family.

Small positive note about the stereo audio integrated in two speakers, one at the bottom and one at the top: well above expectations, guaranteeing crystal clear audio both during standard calls and using the hands-free mode. Being two rather powerful speakers - developed in collaboration with AKG - the audio is very pleasant even when listening to music.

As for the rear photographic sector, this Galaxy S20 FE 5G defends itself very well, thanks to a 555 megapixel Sony IMX 12 sensor with ƒ / 1.8, which goes to accompany a 12 megapixel ƒ / 2.2 wide angle and an 8 megapixel ƒ / 2.4 telephoto.

In general, the photographic quality of this smartphone is comparable to that of its older brothers S20 and S20 +, guaranteeing excellent quality photos, even in low light conditions such as at night, even if in this last case we have noticed a slight decrease in quality. . In general, we can still be satisfied with the quality level of the photos, especially in daytime where even with the 3X zoom we did not find significant loss of details and with rather quick shots.

To be commended is certainly the brightness balance in a backlit situation, which together with the bright and natural colors galvanize a certainly praiseworthy use of HDR.

For the rest, the options related to the rear photographic compartment are varied, leaving a rather wide freedom of choice, integrating a large choice of filters according to the situation in which we find ourselves.

The video sector can go up to 4K at 60fps; very satisfactory, thanks to stable and sharp shooting, which guarantee good quality movies. Too bad for the lack of 8k at 30 fps, instead there is an additional stabilization mode that forces recordings in 1080p.

To conclude, there is a 32MP front camera, without infamy and without praise, but which ensure appreciable selfies and videos in 4K at 60 fps.

We say it clearly: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G is a really nice phone sold at a competitive price, especially if you consider that it is possible to find it at already reduced prices on online stores. Be aware that despite being a top of the range in its essence, it remains a slightly less busy product, and the polycarbonate back cover and some shortcomings like the 8K prove it.

Excellent performance, improved autonomy and good photographic sector: if you are thinking about the idea of buying a top Samsung smartphone, perhaps without spending exaggeratedly high figures, perhaps this Galaxy S20 FE 5G could be for you. However, we must be aware of giving up some accessory shortcomings, which the most pretentious would still like to find in a top of the range.
