    How to clear the history of any web browser

    Whenever you browse the Internet, your browser records the addresses of each web page you visit in its history. This allows you to track past activities and also helps you revisit websites quickly.


    However, a browser's history can create problems for your privacy. For example, if you share a desktop or mobile device with others (or if you are worried that someone is curious), you may want to delete it. In this article, you will learn how to clear browser history on five major browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera.



    How to improve online privacy 

    You can optionally choose to delete additional forms of browsing data such as cached web content, site cookies, and autofill information to further safeguard your privacy.

    Clear browser history in Google Chrome

    Google Chrome allows you to delete individual entries from your browsing history via its panel Chronology. But if you want to delete everything (or activity related to a specific period), you have to dig into your browser settings.


    If you use a Google account to sync your browsing data, deleting your history will also remove it from other devices.

    Google Chrome — Windows e Mac

    1. Open the menu Other Chrome (select the three-dot icon) in the top right corner of the screen and choose Settings.
    2. Scroll down to the section Privacy and security and select Clear browsing data.
    3. Open the drop-down menu next to Interval di time and select a duration. Available options include Last hourLast 24 hoursLast 7 daysLast 4 weeks e Everlasting.
    4. Check the box next to Navigazione timeline.

    If you want to delete the cache and cookies, select respectively Cookie and altri dati dei siti e Cached images and files. You can also switch to the tab Advanced to delete download history, autofill data, passwords and more.



    5. Select Clear data.


    Suggestion: you can also access the screen faster Clear browsing data pressing Shift + Ctrl + Canc (Windows) or Shift + Command + Canc (Sword).

    Google Chrome — Android e iOS

    1. Open the menu Other Chrome at the top right (Android) or bottom right (iOS) of the screen. Then, select Settings.
    2. Toccata Chronology > Clear browsing data (Android) or Privacy > Clear browsing data (IOS).
    3. To touch Time lapse and specify a duration, for example All Time.
    4. Select Navigazione timeline.
    5. Toccata Clear browsing data.

    Suggestion: You can prevent Chrome from adding sites to your browsing history by browsing in incognito mode.

    Clear browser history in Mozilla Firefox

    In Mozilla Firefox, you can clear browser history on both the desktop and mobile apps by briefly diving into the Options or Settings panel. If you use a Firefox account to sync your data, deleting history on one device will also remove the other devices.


    Mozilla Firefox — Windows e Mac

    1. Open the menu of Firefox (select the icon with three overlapping lines) and select options.
    2. Select Privacy and security in the sidebar.
    3. Scroll down to the section Chronology and select Cancel the timeline.
    4. Setting up Time interval to clear su Tutto. Other time frames available include Last hourLast two hoursLast four hours e Today.
    5. Check the box next to Browsing and download history.
    6. Select OK.

    Mozilla Firefox — Android e iOS

    1. Open the menu of Firefox and touch Settings.
    2. Select Erase private data (Android) or Data management (IOS).
    3. Turn on the switch next to Navigazione timeline.
    4. Toccata Clear data (Android) or Erase private data (IOS).
    5. To touch OK to confirm.

    Hint: in future, you can use private windows for sessions where you want to prevent Firefox from logging your activity. You can also install Firefox Focus on your Android or iOS smartphone for a dedicated private browsing experience.



    Clear browser history in Microsoft Edge

    Microsoft Edge offers comprehensive protection against online privacy threats with its built-in tracking prevention module. But if you have any doubts offline, you should start by clearing your browsing history.

    Microsoft Edge - Windows and Mac

    1. Open the menu Edge and select Settings.
    2. Switch to the side tab Privacy, research and services.
    3. In the Clear browsing data, select Choose what to delete.
    4. Open the drop-down menu in Time lapse and select an available time range, for example Everlasting.
    5. Select Navigazione timeline.
    6. Select Cancel now.

    Microsoft Edge - Android and iOS

    1. Open the menu Edge (tap the three-dot icon at the bottom of the screen) and select Settings.
    2. Toccata Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.
    3. Select Navigazione timeline.
    4. Select Clear browsing data.
    5. To touch Clear to confirm.

    Clear browser history in Apple Safari

    Apple's native Safari browser for Mac, iPhone and iPad allows you to easily delete your browsing history. However, if you've configured your browser to sync your data to your Apple ID, clearing your browser history on a single device will delete it everywhere.


    Apple Safari — Mac

    1. Press and hold the key Option and select Safari in the menu bar. Then, select Clear history without deleting browsing data.
    2. Setting up Clear su all history or another appropriate time interval.
    3. Select Cancel the timeline.

    Suggestion: if you want to delete all browsing data in Safari (which includes cached data and cookies), open the menu Safari without holding down the key Option and select Cancel the timeline.


    Apple Safari — iPhone e iPad

    Unlike the Mac, you can't clear browser history only in Safari for iPhone and iPad. Clearing the history will also remove site data and cached cookies.

    1. Tap the icon bookmark at the bottom (iPhone) or top right corner (iPad) within any Safari tab. 
    2. Switch to the tab Chronology.
    3. To touch Clear and select an interval of time: AlwaysToday and yesterdayToday o The last hour.

    Safari will immediately clear the history, cache and cookies for the selected time period.

    Clear browser history in Opera browser

    If you use Opera as your reference web browser, you can clear your browser history by accessing your browser's privacy and security settings.

    Browser Opera — Windows e Mac

    1. Open the Opera menu in the upper left corner of the screen and select Settings.
    2. Scroll down to the section Privacy and security and select Clear browsing data.
    3. Check the box next to Navigazione timeline.
    4. Setting up Time lapse su All times.
    5. Toccata Clear data.

    Browser Opera — Android e iOS

    1. Open the menu Opera and touch Settings.
    2. Toccata Clear browser data and touch Navigazione timeline.
    3. Toccata Clear.

    Don't forget to browse privately

    Clearing your browser history is easy, but it's a hassle to do it repeatedly. Thankfully, all major web browsers come with an option to browse privately, so don't forget to use it next time you want to stay anonymous.
