News Fumito Ueda on his new game:

Smoking Ueda, the mastermind behind the likes of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, is working on a game that he believes will be very different from his previous work.

Despite the confidentiality regarding his work, at the beginning of the year Ueda stated that after working for many years a The Last Guardian, his next game could abandon the linearity of the latter and return to a formula Open-world similar to that of Shadow of the Colossus. Beyond this, Ueda didn't reveal much else.

But recently, in an interview with Eurogamer, provided some additional information regarding his next project.

First of all, unlike its previous games, it does not intend to develop the game from visual stimuli such as, for example, a short film. For the first time in his career, he will first of all create a prototype and thanks to modern development tools, it will not have to start from scratch. So the development shouldn't be ten years like it happened with The Last Guardian.

In particular, Ueda said:

I would like to finish the game as soon as possible. Many problems have slowed the development of for a long time The Last Guardian.

The last three games played weren't supposed to be so similar to each other. When I start making a game, I always think it will have to be different. But in this case, the result was having three very similar games, even linked together. It wasn't something I predicted, but it happened in the process of creation.

Even now, I think my next game will have to be different, but I can't predict what the outcome will be.

Recently, Ueda said he sent Sony a list of changes he would like to see in the Shadow of the Colossus remake. As for his next game, we don't expect any news in the near future.
