You can disable the messaging chat activity status directly from the Messenger app, available on Android and iOS / iPadOS.

  • Launch the Messenger app,
  • tap on the profile, top left,
  • select the item Activity status,
  • move the lever next to the word Show when you are active to OFF,

  • select the Settings> Activity status items from the next screen,

From PC

With the Web version of Facebook for PC you can disable the Messenger chat activity status using the tools that are in the right sidebar:

  • click on the icon (...) next to the Contacts section,
  • press on the item Disable the activity status.

At this point, in the displayed screen, you can choose three options:

  • disable status for all contacts,
  • exclude someone from the filter,
  • disable it only for some specific contacts,
  • Press the OK button.

Using Messenger with the web portal:

  • click on the icon (...), at the top,
  • select the items Preferences> Deactivate the activity state,
  • choose one of the three options seen previously.

How to join Facebook without being seen

If we want to sign up for Facebook without letting anyone know about it, we have two choices:

  • create a new "fake" account, away from our real identity,
  • set the privacy so that they are not easily found.

From smartphones and tablets

Let's consider the first case, creating a new account:

  • start the Facebook app,

  • press on Exit, to disconnect from the account currently in use.

  3. You want search engines outside Facebook to redirect to your profile.

In this way we could not be tracked either by search engines (such as Google, Bing or Yahoo), or with our e-mail address, used during registration, or with the telephone number associated with our account.

From PC

These same procedures can be performed from a PC, via the web version of Facebook.

To create a new account:

  • log into Facebook from your browser.
  • press the icon ▼ located at the top right,
  • click on the item Exit from new menu,
  • select the item Create new account, to create a new one, or
  • click on the Add account icon,
  • enter the login details of the other account.

Whenever we log out of Facebook with this procedure, we will be able to access one of the listed accounts by clicking on its thumbnail.


To set privacy not to be found:

  • access the main page of our profile,
  • press the icon ▼ at the top right,
  • from the new menu select the items Settings and privacy> Settings> Privacy.

  • press the icon ☰ located at the top,
  • select the items Settings> Apps and websites> Logged in with Facebook.

In the list that is shown:

  • click on the Edit button next to the name of the service present,
  • check that App visibility is set to Only me.

You can also limit the privacy on the posts we publish and on those that our friends leave, like this:

  • in the Facebook app, press the ☰ icon,
  • select the items Settings> Privacy settings,
  • choose one of the three options:

  2. Limit who can see old posts,

From Facebook settings:
