Dauntless: guide to the best weapons to start playing

Dauntless is finally available on PS4, after having landed on PC and Xbox One. The Phoenix Labs game, clearly inspired by Monster Hunter, is a free to play coop action roleplaying game. We take on the role of a hunter who must take down a series of large creatures: the challenge becomes serious from the beginning, especially if you are not familiar with the genre. With this guide of ours, therefore, we want to help you start playing Dauntless with a few less difficulties.

One of the fundamental points of the game, as always in this genre, is the weapon we choose: it is not just a matter of equipping the "biggest and bad" one, but above all of finding the one that suits our style and allows us to get the best out of our abilities. So let's see together what are the six types of Dauntless weapons, trying to understand their advantages and disadvantages.

Ax

The ax is a slow but very offensive weapon. Its peculiarity is that there allows you to charge shots to inflict a lot of extra damage, especially by taking advantage of the combos. The problem is that the faster enemies are difficult to hit and, in general, you have to predict where the enemy will be, playing ahead and directing the blow in that direction. If you are a solo player, it is not advisable to choose it as you will be too exposed to the attacks of Dauntless creatures. Plus, they're great for cutting monster parts.

Lame a catena

This is Dauntless's only double-handled weapon. It is a fast weapon, but great attention must be paid to dodging and making sure that all hits are successful as the single attack does little damage. The real advantage of the weapon, in any case, is linked to the possibility of throwing the blade through the chain: Basically, it's a real attack from a distance, great for staying in a safe spot. The special meter, which charges when attacking, allows you to dodge attacks or get close to an enemy quickly.

Hammer

The hammer is one of the Dauntless weapons that can inflict greater damage: obviously this is counterbalanced by a noticeable slowness in movements. The real downside, however, is that it cannot cut the parts of the Behemoths. The hammer is therefore a weapon that must be used in combination with a blade of some kind, to be used in cases where you absolutely need to get parts of the monsters. That said, know that the hammer is a perfect weapon for newbies as it is easy to use: Learning how to synchronize attacks isn't too complex and massive damage is the icing on the cake. But always pay attention to the resistance: big weapons fatigue the characters more quickly.

Spade of war

The Warpeak is one of the best weapons by Dauntless. Damage is high and has a great range. It is easy to learn how to use it and allows you to attack in two distinct ways: to start, you can take advantage of lunge attacks that can hurt the Behemots and cause them to suffer damage over time, in addition, it is possible to use slash attacks that sever parts of enemies. It is one of the weapons that must never be missing in a close-knit party. Finally, the special gauge increases the damage of the weapon based on the number of charges available.

Sword

As is often the case in many games, the sword is the most balanced weapon available and is suitable for all types of players. The various hits are quite quick and there are multiple combos to master to maximize the damage dealt to monsters. The special weapon gauge allows you to inflict more damage for a certain amount of time after activation. The advantage of the sword, as mentioned, comes from its being balanced, so if you want something valid for the attack but also for the defense it's a good choice as it allows you to dodge attacks or run away after a quick slash. Finally, it is a good weapon for cutting the parts of monsters.

Ostian repeaters

Ostian Repeaters are not an immediately available weapon, therefore it is to be excluded as a weapon for new players; nevertheless, we want to give you an idea of ​​what it is. This is Dauntless's only ranged weapon and is therefore perfect for both offensive and defensive techniques. Furthermore, it is possible (and essential) to equip additional parts to adapt the weapon to the type of enemy you want to face.
