Sword and Shield Pokémon Guides - Where to find Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno Galar

Sword and Shield Pokémon Guides - Where to find Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno Galar

Among the many additions introduced with the new Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC, Snow-covered lands of the Crown, there are three particular versions of three legendary historians of the first generation of Pokémon. These are Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno of Galar. Each of them has a dedicated mission that allows you to get them to complete your Pokédex, and I'm here to help you find them.

To be able to access these three legendary Pokémon, which not only change in appearance like other Pokémon of the Galar, but which have a complete restyle also in terms of type and skill, you will need to have purchased the second of the two DLCs planned for the eighth generation of the Gamefreak title. In fact, within the new setting present in this DLC, you will be able to capture these Pokémon while they are still wild.

  • Moltres
  • Zapdos
  • Articuno

Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno of Galar - What you need to know

Compared to the original version of the three legendary birds of Kanto, the change in both aesthetics and types is evident. For Moltres, you go from fire / flying to dark / flying, for Zapdos from electro / flying to fighting / flying and for Articuno from ice / flying to psycho / flying.

As for the design, Moltres will be reminiscent of a red flame, with most of the body of black colour to remember its dark type, which replaces the Pokémon's original yellow. Zapdos maintains its shape that recalls electricity, but in this case the main color will be orange, and instead of flying the Pokémon will rely on own paws. Articuno, on the other hand, looks almost like a peacock, with a design elegance violet color that takes the place of the original blue.

To meet these three Pokémon for the first time, which you will immediately see in combat with each other, just get to the area Ballimere Lake and approach the huge tree in the area. Once you get close, a cutscene will play showing the three legendary birds as they fight each other and then escape. To meet these three Pokémon again, you will need to wait for the level 70, but unfortunately you won't be able to find them in Shiny form.

Where to find and how to get the Moltres of Galar

After the fight, Moltres will flee to theLonely Armor Island, the area where the events of the first Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC took place. Here the Moltres of Galar will fly over the starting area of the map, and capturing it will be quite simple.

Approaching the area that the Pokémon controls, it will attack you immediately, starting the battle and allowing you to capture it. You shouldn't have any particular problems, but I advise you to be careful, because the Pokémon will notice you even from a good distance away, so keep your position in mind and prepare yourself well before facing it.

How to capture the Zapdos of Galar

As for Zapdos, the area he will flee to will be slightly different. To find this quick Pokémon, just arrive at Wildland of Galar, where time will pass until you find it.

When you approach the Pokémon inside the Wild Area - it will be easy to find it - it will run away. To be able to chase him at his speed, I suggest you get in the saddle and follow him with your bike. Keep chasing him inside the area until he stops fleeing for a chance to fight and capture him.

Tracking of Articuno in the Snow Covered Land of the Crown

Finally, the third Legendary Pokémon will be found within the area of the new DLC. After the fight he will hide in particular areas of the Snowy mountains, and what you will need is a little patience to find it. Areas where it might be include Snowy Valley and Giant's Bed. However, this will only be part of the effort, because unlike the other two Pokémon, you will need a little luck and preparation.

Articuno of Galar can indeed create two fake copies of himself, which will fly in circles around each other. In order to challenge him, you'll need to find the real one, but in this case it's pure luck. Just to avoid unpleasant surprises, I advise you to save before going to meet the Pokémon in order not to risk losing it.
If this also happens, you will simply need to find it within the map of the new DLC. By choosing the right one, however, it will attack you, starting the fight sequence and giving you the chance to put your hand to the Pokéballs.
