Guide Complete guide to the Greatsword - Monster Hunter Rise

With the start of your experience on Monster hunter rise you will immediately have to make a very important choice, which is to understand which weapon you will want to use for the next hours of gameplay. In all there will be 14 different classes at your disposal, each with its strengths, weaknesses and particularities in general.

In this guide, in particular, I will tell you about the Greatsword, specifying their various basic moves, combos, silkworm attacks and trading skills, along with some general tips on how to use them.

Furthermore, if the guide is not enough for you and you want the weapon in action, I refer you directly to Edivad video tutorial, one of the contributors from the facebook page La Taverna del Cacciatore:

Basic commands

As in various past titles in the series, the Greatsword is a weapon very slow which to be used at its best requires both a reasoned positioning and precise timing. In fact, using it to make quick shots may be easier, but it will inflict very low damage.

For this reason, the correct choice will be to charge them as much as possible and only then hit the monster, although getting hit will block the process.

Both for this reason and for the very basic moves it is not a bad choice for novice players, as it also forces them to learn precisely the movements of the opposing creatures in a more marked way.

Combo

  • Ultimate Charged Slash Combo: Hold X (Charged Slash) -> Hold X + Left Analogue (Grand Charged Slash) -> A (Grand Slash) -> Hold X (Ultimate Charged Slash)
  • Grand Slash charged in fall: ZR (Falling Lunge) -> Hold X (Charged Grand Slash)
  • Ultimate Charged Slash in Fall: ZR (Falling Lunge) -> A (Slashing) -> Hold X (Ultimate Charged Slash)
  • Combo attack sprints forward: A (Sweep) -> A (Shoulder) -> A (Air Slash)
  • Combo when standing: A (Sweep) -> X + A (Upright) -> A (Sweep)

Clearly the most important of these to keep in mind are those that concern the Charged slashes, being the combos that in general will deal the most damage.

Attacks with basic silk silk

Even the Greatsword can have 2 different Silkweave Attacks from the beginning, both with different cost and use.

Hunting knife

A leaping silkworm attack that can be performed with ZL + X to which you can chain a shot in mid-air with ZR or X (remember that you can also charge it). It will consume two silk silk charges as soon as it will run.

Powerful sheath

A silkworm attack that can be performed with ZL + A that will immediately put your weapon back in holster, while applying a power-up on the blade that will increase the damage dealt for a short period of time. It will consume a silky charge as soon as it will be executed.

Exchange skill

As with any weapon category, the Greatsword will be able to make use of Exchange skill, or interchangeable attacks that you will unlock with specific missions after you have used it enough.

Two of these will replace some basic attacks, while one can replace a attack with silkworm. However, keep in mind that each can only replace some specific attacks, modifying the resulting move but keeping the buttons to press to perform it identical.

Defensive Shoulder Pad (replaces Shoulder Pad)

Attack that replaces the Shoulder, then performed by pressing the button A during a charge. It will consist of a snap forward with the flat part of the blade, which will block any attack that hits it.

In the event that any hit is scored, a Charged Slash can be performed immediately.

Rage slash (replaces permanent Charged Slash)

An attack that replaces the ultimate Charged Slash will not hit twice in a row like the latter but it will improve the hunter's offensive ability for a period of time if it is hit during its animation. Charged Slash and Charged Grand Slash will always be required before they can be used.

Defense Charged Slash (replaces Hunting Blade)

Il Defense Charged Slash is a silkworm attack that will replace the Hunting Blade, always requiring ZL + X as input to execute. It will allow you to dash forward by executing a Charged Slash, resisting knockdowns while moving.
