How to buy games on PlayStation Store

How to pay and where are games purchased from PlayStation Store. Gone are the days of queuing at your local game store to buy the latest games. Launched in 2006, the PlayStation Store has made it convenient for Sony fans to purchase games for its consoles from the PS3 onwards.

In this article, we explain how to add funds to your PlayStation wallet and then use those funds to purchase games from the PlayStation Store.

What you need to know about the PlayStation wallet

All adult PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts have an online wallet that can be topped up using registered payment methods. At the time of creation, children's accounts have a spending limit of € 0 which can be changed by the family manager of the PSN account.

While PSN wallet funds do not expire, there are portfolio limits per country or country. PSN Wallets can make purchases on the PlayStation Store within the PSN region in which you purchased your funds. For example, you will not be able to use PSN Wallet funds in GBP in the US PlayStation Store or vice versa.

Now that you know the PSN Wallet, we will walk you through the various payment methods to pay for games on the PlayStation Store.

How to top up PlayStation Network (PSN) wallets

There are three main ways to pay for games (and other items) on PlayStation Store:

  1. Credit / Debit Cards
  2. PayPal
  3. PlayStation Store card

Here's how to load your PSN wallet with each method:

1. Credit or debit cards

Using your PlayStation console, go to Settings> Account Management> Account Information> Wallet> Payment Methods. After entering your password, select Add a credit or debit card, enter your card details and confirm.

Credit and debit cards only work when your address matches the country where your PSN account is registered. You can link up to three credit or debit cards to your PlayStation wallet.

Due to the Address Verification System (AVS), users commonly encounter verification problems when buying games in the PSN store using credit or debit cards. To fix this, check if your card is AVS compatible by calling your bank and make sure you type exactly how your statement shows your address.

Also, avoid using special characters such as hyphens, apostrophes, or slashes. Write the street names numbered, remove anything that indicates a direction, and replace any special characters with the nearest letter from the Latin alphabet. Even post office boxes and military addresses are currently not accepted.

If you prefer, you can link a PayPal account to your PSN account instead.

2 PayPal

Using your PlayStation console, go to Settings> Account Management> Account Information> Wallet> Payment Methods> Add a PayPal Account and confirm your login details.

Select PayPal in Payment methods, choose the top-up amount and authorize the payment.

Be sure to check the PayPal list of countries that support PSN direct payments. Remember that you can only register one PayPal account to one PSN account at a time. Alternatively, PayPal offers you the option to purchase PlayStation Store cards directly from its website.

If your country does not allow PayPal direct payments or you prefer to keep your personal details private, you can choose to buy PlayStation Store cards instead.

3. PlayStation Store card

To redeem a PlayStation Store card, go to PlayStation Store> Redeem Codes . Enter the twelve-digit code of your card and select Redeem .

You can purchase PlayStation Store cards from various retailers. Please note that some vouchers require reseller activation and will be valid for one year after purchase.

Now that you know all the ways you can load money into your PSN account wallet, let's move on to the fun stuff.

How to buy games from the PlayStation Store

Once you have selected the game you want to download from the paid catalog, a screen with a button will appear Add to Cart next to the price of the game.

After selecting Add to Cart, you will be given the option to Continue shopping o Proceed to payment. You can add more games before moving on.

After selecting the payment method and confirming the payment, you will be able to download the game and play it.

How to request a refund for a purchase made on PlayStation Store

If you've changed your mind about a game you purchased on the PSN store, you have 14 days to request a refund. For pre-orders, you can ask for a refund until the official release date.

If you're not happy with a PlayStation membership, you can also request a refund with the appropriate deductions depending on how much you've used the service.

Please note that once you have downloaded or streamed your purchase, you are no longer entitled to a refund unless the content is faulty. For any type of refund or cancellation, you can send a message to PlayStation Support.
