Starting with update 1.3.0, Animal Crossing: New Horizons added the possibility of finding and exhibiting in the Blatero museum sea creatures, which can be collected using the new swimming mechanics.

In this guide we will see how to find, identify and make the most of them on your island, dividing them according to the month in which you can get them in the Northern Hemisphere.

How to find and use marine creatures

To look for sea creatures you will have to swim in the ocean, so first go to Mirco and Marco's shop and buy one of the wetsuits there.

There will always be a wetsuit with horizontal stripes, while at Punto Nook you can buy, by entering the Nook Catalog selection, a Nook Inc. wetsuit (Green) and one of 4 wetsuits with leaf motif per day.

Once you have one of them, wear it and try to run towards the ocean that surrounds your island: you will notice that you will not only be able to enter it, but you will also be able to move inside it.

Once this is done, look for the various scattered black shadows, hover over them and press Y to capture a sea creature.

As with normal fish, marine creatures will also be identifiable based on the shade they cast, especially the features to keep in mind are how much it will move and size. The latter will also be distinguishable from bubbles issued: the bigger the shadow, the more bubbles it will emit.

As for their use, as previously mentioned you can donate one specimen per creature to Blathers and exhibit it at the museum.

In case you find more specimens, just sell them at Mirco and Marco's shop to get some more Stars, but remember to avoid selling in the external cash box if you do not want your earnings. reduced by 20%.

If you really like them, however, you can display them in your home or outside on the island like normal fish.

One last use concerns just one creature in particular, the Scallops, which you can donate to the inhabitant pasqualo to get some unique rewards.

There will be a total of 40 sea creatures in the game, whose appearance will depend on the month and time they are searched for.

As mentioned above, we will only consider here the northern hemisphere, but to know which creatures to get in the southern hemisphere, just look at which ones are available 6 months later than when you are playing.
