Coca-Cola, stop advertising on Facebook

Also Coca-Cola Company is supporting the “Stop Hate For Profit“ campaign: the giant has just decided to suspend the YouTube's ADS, but click on them, su Facebook at least for 30 days. From XNUMX July, there will therefore be no advertising messages on Facebook dedicated to the company specializing in soft drinks.

Stop Hate For Profit, initially supported by some clothing brands, was soon approved by companies from different sectors. It all started when some pages shared content that many saw violence, hate e misinformation. The request received by Facebook and other social networks is one regulatory more stringent regarding messages inciting hatred, violence and racism.

James Quincey, the CEO of Coca-Cola, said through a note published on the official website:

Starting July 1, the Coca-Cola Company will pause paid advertising on all social media platforms globally for at least 30 days. We will take time to reassess our advertising standards and policies to determine if revisions are needed internally and what we should expect from our social media partners to rid platforms of hate, violence and inappropriate content. We expect greater accountability, action and transparency.

Probably not only Facebook will be the victim of this boycott - also promoted by Unilever - but all social networks, including Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. Although the biggest profit for Mark Zuckerberg's company comes from small and medium companies, the action chosen by the Coca-Cola Company represents bad publicity for the giant. A spokesperson for Facebook, just a few days ago, said:

We invest billions of dollars each year to keep our community safe and continuously work with outside experts to review and update our policies. We know we still have many operations to do and we will continue to work with civil rights groups and other experts to develop even more tools, technology and policies to continue this struggle.

We just have to wait to find out how this delicate situation will evolve.
