Animal Crossing Guide: New Horizons - Pasqualo and the Mermaid set

With the introduction of diving suits in the latest update of Animal Crossing: New Horizons another character, one of the most beloved of the previous title for 3DS, has returned to visit us. We are talking about Pasqualo, the sea otter greedy for scallops who is willing to offer us some advantageous exchange in order to have some.

If you have doubts about other parts of the game, we refer you to our guide with all the game mechanics.

Like diving into the ocean

The first step necessary to go in search of scallops is to know how to immerse yourself in the sea that surrounds our island. To do this, you will need one move, which can be purchased from the Miglia Nook Catalog or from the Marco & Mirco brothers' shop. Once purchased, select "Wear".

Now you can start your adventure in the seabed: approach the waves on the beach and press A while wearing the wetsuit. Your character will dive into the sea and you can swim by repeatedly pressing A and using the left stick to change direction.

Locate a scallop

Here comes the difficult part: how do I distinguish a scallop among the thousand shadows on the seabed? Unfortunately, the game won't tell you in advance which shadow matches the sea creature you're looking for. However, you can rely on some criteria that will lead you to increase the chances of drawing one:

  • The shadow is of normal size, i.e. neither too big nor too small, and often appears rounded. For a better reference, look at this scallop shade in the photo:

  • Pay attention only to the shadows that produce bubbles. The scallop is one of the sea creatures that produce bubbles;
  • Make sure your island gate is closed and you have at least one more free inventory space before capturing the scallop. So if one of these conditions is not met, Pasqualo will not appear when you catch it.

Don't give up, Crosser! Sooner or later you will be able to get your hands on the ocean delicacy!

Doing business with Pasqualo

But is it really worth depriving ourselves of our precious scallop? Although quite rare, Pasqualo has a lot to offer us in return. The sea otter will be able to offer us a do-it-yourself pattern from the Mermaid series, a Mermaid-style garment or a pearl. Even the pearl, if sold by Marco & Mirco, has a higher value in stars than the scallop itself. So, do not miss the opportunity to make a fruitful exchange!

FAQ

D: Pasqualo no longer appears on my island, why?
A: Here a clarification is needed: Pasqualo will appear on your island only once a day. This means that if you catch more than one scallop, you will have to wait until the next day to do business. And no, it is not possible to offer him sea creatures from the day before in exchange: our favorite otter loves only the freshest fish!

D: For a while, Pasqualo has left me only pearls, why?
A: Don't worry, it's often just bad luck! What Pasqualo offers you in exchange for the scallop is casual and is chosen from patterns, exclusive clothing and pearls. If you don't find some Mermaid patterns, keep diving into the seabed and try your luck.
NB: In the current version (1.4.2) there is a bug whereby, if the player picks up an already crafted Siren object, for example given by another player, he will not be able to get that same blueprint from Pasqualo. Therefore, we invite all users not to accept Mermaid items as gifts if they do not already have the respective DIY scheme.

D: If I invite a player to my island, can we look for Pasqualo together?
A: No. Pasqualo will only show up if that city gate is closed. For this, you will have to look for the scallops yourself.
