Pokémon GO Guides - Community Days and how they work

Community, community, group: a cornerstone of Pokémon GO. The concept of aggregation and sociality that is so dear to gambling, and that for months now gambling has had to temporarily put aside in favor of our physical well-being. But not entirely: Niantic has worked hard to remind us that we are not alone, even if distant. Although closed in four walls, we were able to capture and fight - unfortunately not exchange - and now we can also get invited to raids.

But what in Pokémon GO most takes charge of the desire to bring people together are the fixed appointments. From the time of the Pokémon in the foreground on Tuesday to the legendary hour of Wednesday, passing through the very special "days" raid that knock on our door from time to time. The culmination of these meetings is a monthly fixture.

Large groups of people populate the streets of the cities, phones in hand and smiles on their faces as they exchange a few words and capture Pokémon. Another appointment that had to submit to the harsh laws of quarantine, forcing Niantic to rethink it all over, waiting for the day when it could return to its old glories. Let's talk about the day when communities of players come together: Community Day.

Pokémon GO Guides - Community Days and how they work

Community Day and its bonuses

Community Day, as mentioned, is a special monthly event that usually lasts three hours. During this time, a Pokémon will be the undisputed protagonist: it will flood the streets of your city, it will be at the center of field research missions, it will hatch more frequently from eggs. This frequently results in an opportunity to stack as many candy as possible of a not very common Pokémon, in order to evolve it when you want.

It doesn't end there, because there are other special bonuses planned for those three hours. It is, in rotation, one of the following:

  • Reduction of the distance required to hatch the eggs
  • Increased experience points obtained from capture / evolution (of any Pokémon)
  • Stardust increased from catching any Pokémon
  • Increased candy obtained by catching any Pokémon
  • Increased duration of bait modules (any type)
  • Increased duration / greater effectiveness for aromas

Any of these will prove to be extremely useful. For example, the candy bonus can be useful for those less common Pokémon, difficult to obtain and therefore to evolve and upgrade for battles. Stardust will also be needed to power up Pokémon or unlock other charged moves if you plan on doing so. Aromas and bait modules will then be very useful in making the most of the event.

Some useful tips therefore could be to take advantage of these bonuses by using also the objects obtained outside the Community Day Fortunuovo, the Star piece and Baccananas, which still increase the experience, powder and candy obtained respectively. The first two also often enjoy an extended duration during Community Days - covering the full three hours if activated after the event has begun. We cannot ignore the decoy Modules: they also last for the entire event if activated after its start.

The legacy moves

The benefits don't end there. First of all, the Pokémon protagonist of the event often sees its chromatic form released, which in any case becomes easier to find during the event even if it has already been released previously. But the real exclusivity of the Community Day, which in some cases makes it very attractive for PvP players, are the so-called "legacy moves".

These are moves that can no longer be obtained outside the event, except with a very rare MT Elite obtainable at the end of the season from the GO Battle League (upon reaching at least level 7). The most eye-catching players are certainly those of the starter Pokémon of the various regions - Root Tree, Hydro Cannon and Fire depending on the type. They require a fair amount of energy to use, and the damage dealt to the opponent is considerable even when not super effective. Let's analyze those available so far.

How to learn the legacy moves

For them to learn the unique moves, your Pokémon must evolve into their final form to the max within two / three hours following the end of the event. Using TM of any type will not serve to teach previously evolved Pokémon, with the exception of Elite TMs which allow you to do so. However, it is not recommended to waste this rare and tiring to obtain item, but rather to wait later in the year.

If you have missed these unique opportunities to teach legacy moves to your Pokémon, in fact, remember that Niantic is used to keeping a special Community Day in December. A sort of multi-day summary event, during which the aforementioned Pokémon will alternate on your map. They will also be able to learn previously released legacy moves for the duration of the event.

Community Day in October

The 17 October, for the first time ever, a Pokémon already seen previously will be re-proposed as the protagonist of the Community Day (except for the "summary" events of December). It is about Charmander, second in the ranking in the voting held via Twitter some time ago (won instead by Porygon, protagonist of September). This time, evolving Charmeleon into Charizard will allow him to get the Dragonbreath Dragon-type quick move. It is not yet clear if it will be possible to teach him Fire, obtained during the first Community Day.

To give you plenty of time to catch and decide which Porygon to evolve, October Community Day will last six hours instead of three (11:00 - 17:00). As usual, the time to get the exclusive move expires at exactly 19 pm, two hours after the event. Obviously the bonuses change: this month you can get triple the stardust from each capture (so hand to the Star Piece!), and the aromas activated after 11 will last for three hours. Furthermore, by interacting with any of your Pokémon in GO Photo mode, Charmander will also make an appearance as a surprise encounter (photobomb). You can also get Mega Energy for Charizard from Field Missions!

As usual, the game store offers the possibility to spend virtual or real currency to help you in the experience. The October Community Day pack, available for purchase for 1280 Pokémonete, will contain one MT Star Player Charged Attack, three Star Pieces, three Super Incubators and 30 Ultra Balls. Finally, at a price of € 0,99 you can buy a ticket for a special search to be completed during the event (“A Tale of Tails“), which among other rewards will also contain mega-energy for Charizard.
