The process for applying for a blue badge is simple, but unless you are a public figure, media organization, or brand, you will almost certainly not be approved. You have to convince Facebook that it's worth checking out.

To apply for a blue verification badge for your profile or page, you must have:

  • A profile photo
  • A cover photo
  • A name that follows Facebook's guidelines
  • Content posted on the account
  • "Follow" enabled if you are trying to verify a profile

Once you have made sure that everything complies with the guidelines, go to this link and fill out the form.

If you are attempting to verify yourself as a person, you will need to provide state photo ID.

If you are attempting to verify a brand or media page, you will need to provide a utility invoice, training certificate, articles of incorporation, tax documents, or something else official. You'll also need to add some information that shows why Facebook should check for you.

How to get the gray tick on Facebook

Ideally, gray verification badges are intended for local businesses and organizations.

A lot is changing on Facebook at the moment, so the feature may have been removed without notice. If you are interested in seeing if you are able to request a gray verification badge, open the page and go to Settings. On the General page, Facebook says there should be an option "Check page". As you can see, however, this option does not appear to me.

If it appears to you instead, click on it and then enter a public phone number for the company or click on the option "Check this page with documents". If you use your phone number, Facebook will call you with a 4-digit verification code. If you verify your document page, you will need to upload a document showing the name and address of your business.

Whichever option you choose, Facebook will take a few days to compare your page details to publicly available information. If your data is accepted, your page will be checked with a gray tick.
