Luka is a character from Honkai: Star Rail specialized in physical DoTs, here are some tips to create the best possible build.

Among the new additions to the cast of Honkai: StarRail with patch 1.2 it is also there Port, a 4-star Physical-type character belonging to the Nihility class. His specialty is i DoT (damage over time) but overall he turns out to be a versatile character, also capable of reducing the opponent's defense and removing buffs, all while also being efficient in terms of Skill Points.

Trace skill and priority overview

Luka performs his Ultimate

NB: whenever we talk about the values and statistics of Skill, Ultimate, Talents and so on we will always refer to those of the Trace developed at the highest level without Eidolon bonuses, in order to give an idea of the character's potential at its maximum potential.

The ability that stands as the pillar of Luka's kit is la Skill "Lacerating Fist". In addition to dealing damage equal to 120% of the character's ATK to a single target, it has a base 100% chance (which does not vary based on the Trace's level) to apply Bleed for 3 turns. This DoT inflicts damage equivalent to 24% of the maximum HP of the affected opponent at the beginning of each turn, which however cannot exceed 338% of Luka's ATK, which is essentially the value to take into consideration when facing bosses or enemies with many PS. In any case, we are talking about very high scaling and in general the DoTs represent Luka's greatest source of damage.

The other element that characterizes Luka is his Talent. At the start of each battle and after using the Skill or the unboosted basic attack, the character gains a stack of "Fighting Will", up to a maximum of 4 stacks. By consuming 2 of them, the character can use an improved version of his basic attack which has several interesting characteristics.

In particular, the 'Enhanced basic attack Luka's consists of three straight punches and a powerful finishing uppercut that collectively inflict 140% of his ATK. Additionally, if the opponent is afflicted with Bleed, the last hit immediately activates the DoT, which immediately deals 85% of its original damage. This effect applies to any Bleed, whether from Luka's Skill or those caused by teammates or a Weakness Break, which means you can activate multiple DoTs at the same time on command.

Using the Ultimate Luka gains two stacks of Fighting Will and has a 100% base chance (which does not vary based on Trace level) to reduce an enemy's defense by 20% for 3 three turns. He then performs a powerful punch that causes damage equal to 330% of his ATK.

Finally, with the Technical at the start of battle the character attacks a random enemy, inflicting damage equivalent to 50% of the ATK, with a 100% base chance of applying Bleed. He also immediately earns an extra Fighting Will point.

Very interesting passive skills granted by the Thracians. "Kinetic Overload" removes a buff from an opponent when Luka uses his Skill, which is very useful in many different scenarios; "Cycle Braking" earns the character 3 Energy points for each stack of Fighting Will obtained; finally with "Crush Fighting Will" the first three hits of the enhanced basic attack have a 50% chance of granting an extra hit thus moderately increasing the total damage.

Considering that we are talking about a 4 star character it is also good to take into consideration Eidolon bonuses, which you will probably unlock over time even without doing it on purpose. The most interesting are the second and sixth. "The Enemy is Weak, I am Strong" grants an accumulation of additional Fighting Will by using the Skill on an enemy weak to the Physical element, which greatly helps stack management and opens the door to different rotations of attacks. The last bonus instead enhances the Bleed DoTs which are activated by Luka's enhanced basic attack by a value equal to 8% for each punch performed before the final uppercut (therefore between 24% and 48%).

The advice we can give you when using Luka is to mentally train yourself to use his entire kit, taking into consideration its various advantages, given that every action is useful. The Ultimate deals good damage and removes debuffs, the Skill applies the DoT Bleed, the enhanced basic attack activates the DoT on command and quickly deflates the enemy's stamina bar, while the unpowered basic attack is a weak blow but allows generate Fighting Will without wasting Skill Points. It is equally important to always keep track of the remaining turns of the Bleed and the Fighting Will available to choose the best rotation from time to time based on the situation and the enemy you are facing.

For this reason, regarding the Trace priorities to be developed, the advice is to try to gradually strengthen them all, starting with the Skill, given that the DoT he applies is Luka's greatest source of damage.

The best Light Cones for Luka

“Resolution Shines As Perls of Sweat” offers benefits for the whole team and not just Luka

Without even taking into account the rare and expensive 5-star options (very valid but which we suggest you use on characters of equal rarity), in our opinion the best Light Cone for Luka is the"Eyes of the Prey", which increases the Effect Hit Rate by 20% and DoTs by 24%, both very useful bonuses for this character.

A valid alternative is the "Good Night Sleep Well" which increases the user's damage, including DoTs, by 12% for each debuff applied to an enemy, to a maximum of 36%.

Another interesting option is the "Resolution Shines As Perls of Sweat", which unlike the previous ones sacrifices Luka's personal damage to support that of the entire team. Its effect has a 60% chance to apply Ensnared, which reduces an enemy's defense by 12% for 1 turn. The base chances are not high, but keep in mind that Luka's enhanced basic attack consists of 4 to 7 hits and each of them can activate this debuff.

Relic and recommended statistics, how much Effect Hit Rate is needed?

As a good fighter, the "Champion of Streetwise Boxing" could only be the best set for Luka

As for the Relics you have various options available, the best represented by four pieces of "Champion of Streetwise Boxing", practically tailor-made for Luka. The two-piece bonus increases Physical damage by 10%, while the 4-piece bonus guarantees a permanent 5% ATK bonus to the user every time he attacks or is hit, up to a maximum of 25%.

A valid alternative is the "Musketeer's Wild Wheat" in particular for the 12% bonus to ATK and the four-piece bonus which increases the damage of basic attacks, even enhanced ones, by 10%.

Moving on to Planar Ornaments, the choice falls on "Pan-Galactic Commercial Enterprise", which increases the Effect Hit Rate by 10% and the ATK by 25% of the first attribute, since as we will see later it needs a high Effect Hit Rate and therefore can benefit from both effects of this set. Alternatively there is the "Space Sealing Station" and its double 12% bonus to ATK.

As for the main Relic stats, keep in mind that Luka needs exactly one 67% di Effect Hit Rate to have the mathematical certainty of applying Bleed to any enemy currently present in Honkai: Star Rail. After removing the 18% given by the Trace bonuses, if you manage to reach 49% with the secondary statistics of the Relic, Light Cone and Planar Ornament, the recommended choice for the chest is ATK%, as it is the most important statistic for increasing the character's overall damage, otherwise use one with Effect Hit Rate. However, we do not recommend Crit Rate / DMG as DoTs cannot cause critical damage.

The rest comes naturally: SPD for the feet to increase the frequency of the character's turns and bonus Physical DMG for the Sphere to further increase damage. For the rope the choice falls on SPD or ATK%, the latter in case you are forced to use a chest with Effect Hit Rate. To recap:

  • Chest: ATK% o Effect Hit Rate
  • Feet: SPD
  • Sphere: Physical DMG Boost
  • Rope: Energy Recharge o ATK%

As for secondary statistics, in addition to raising the Effect Hit Rate to 69% overall, pump up the ATK% and SPD as much as possible to maximize the character's offensive potential. If even a few points of Break Effect escape, it won't hurt.

The recommended teams for Luka

Honkai: Star Rail, best build for Luka, Light Cone, Relic and team
Luka is one of the many characters from Jarilo-VI

Luka is currently one of the best characters to pair with Kafka, who has the ability to explode teammates' DoTs on command with Skill and Ultimate.

In general, however, you can use it as Secondary DPS/debuffer against any boss weak to the Physical element and lends itself well to various different formations thanks to its good efficiency in terms of Skill Points. If desired, it is also possible to use it as the main DPS of a team, although to be honest there are options much more suitable for this role. Here are some examples of teams, clearly to be adapted based on needs and preferences.

  • Kafka
  • Port
  • Asta / Sampo / a supporting Harmony or Nihility character
  • Luocha / Bailu / Natasha

or

  • Sushang / Clara or any DPS
  • Port
  • Silver Wolf or a supporting character Harmony or Nihility
  • Natasha / Luocha / Bailu

or

  • Port
  • Tingyun / Asta / Yukong
  • A Harmony or Nihility support character
  • Luocha / Bailu / Natasha
