Inazuma Eleven GO Light / Shadow review

Inazuma Eleven GO Light / Shadow review

In 2011, while the first television season of the anime of Inazuma Eleven and the title of the same name made its debut on the DS in retirement, in Japan the football series of Level 5 reached its fourth chapter, starting a new trilogy: Inazuma Eleven GO.
After playing the Football Frontier International in Inazuma Eleven Lightning Bolt, Explosive Fire and Ogre Attack, and having concluded the trilogy starring Mark Evans, on June 13th, it will be Arion Sherwind's turn to put on his boots.
Inazuma Eleven GO Light and Inazuma Eleven GO Shadow (Inazuma Eleven GO Light / Shadow) are the first title in the series fully developed for 3DS, and will debut, three years late, both physically in stores and in digital download via eShop.

Tested Version: Light

Ten years have passed since the final of the FFI who saw theInazuma Japan triumph and make the Raimon Jr High one of the most important schools in Japan. In this period of time, football has risen more and more as a yardstick for the qualities of a person and the school he attends, causing various disagreements and discontent.
To avoid all this, the Fifth Sector, an organization that monitors matches and schedules them in advance to keep the balance between teams and schools.
In fact, before the important matches, the coach and the principal of the schools involved receive a letter from the Great Emperor with the final result of the match written.
Arion Sherwind is in his first year at Raimon Jr High and is unaware of all the machinations of the Fifth Sector. The young boy loves soccer and just wants to play following his heart; with a long series of events the new protagonist will be able to convince Raimon to rebel against the Fifth Sector and guide her through the Imperial Path to defeat the Great Emperor.
Level 5 tells the story of Arion, gradually proposing the old members of Raimon as well, to see how they have grown and changed over the ten years.
The new Raimon champions, on the other hand, are as usual well characterized, although they recall more than once some of the key characters of the first trilogy, causing more than a complicit smile in the hands of the gamer fan of the series.
However, Light and Shadow are also suitable for novices of the Level 5 football brand, who will probably not grasp the big twists present in the approximately 30 hours of play necessary to complete the main plot in advance.

#The rules are important

For those who still do not know (even if we have now reached the fourth review of the main chapters) Inazuma Eleven it is not an ordinary football game, but a Football-themed role-playing game with rock-paper-scissor stats and elemental genres for each of the available players.
This first chapter of the adventures of Arion brings with it some juicy new features in the consolidated gameplay of the old trilogy: first of all, in the exploration phase, you will have control of five characters instead of the classic four, transforming the clashes, no longer random, into 5 against challenges 5, while keeping the "victory conditions" intact (once again score a goal, steal the ball, don't let the ball be stolen).
On the map there are red dots, to signal the presence of challengers, some motionless waiting for Arion to speak to him, while others will rush towards us in full Pokémon style.
The no longer random challenges correct one of the main flaws of the first trilogy, where the pace of the plot was slowed by the numerous clashes on the streets between one event and another.
In addition, the difficulty level constantly progresses with each new zone that is unlocked, offering a great way to train and to increase your level at any time.

Before moving on to the news on the real games it is necessary to spend a couple of words also on the changes to engage the 1500 players in this chapter: forget the gashapon machines and the talent seeker Level 5 he left only one of the old engagement techniques, the casual one at the end of the match. All other players will be able to be summoned to the team only if special requests are met, ranging from photographing a certain place (simply by pressing A in front of it) to recovering particular objects by defeating opponents.
Unfortunately, the main flaw that has always degraded the series remains, although the 1500 players are all physically different, the stats and moves of these secondary characters will all be very similar to each other, making the players to be hired mere collectibles.

The unmissable heart of the series remains football matches with the last special move, which for the past four chapters (six in their native land) have been carrying on the plot and the events of the brand.
Alongside the superb unlikely moves in Inazuma Eleven GO some protagonists will be able to count on Warrior Spirits, supernatural entities similar to JoJo's stands, which will provide him with more power and endurance during terrible matches.
Warrior Spirits add an additional strategic factor to take into account: up to three can be used at the same time, but their Energy Points will decrease over time, making their intervention in the game decisive or not.
Internal missions have been added to the games in history, as long as these objectives are not met, the challenge will not continue, leaving the clock stopped.
Although this addition on the one hand strengthens the narrative component on the other, it makes the games much less free than in the previous trilogy, leaving the player free to choose only in the final stages or in friendlies; fortunately these "missions" are not too invasive and unpleasant, unlike the black screens that will warn us of the objectives during the exploration and which unfortunately are all too pressing.
As for the previous titles, Inazuma Eleven GO Luce also offers both a competitive and cooperative Wireless multiplayer mode for friendlies, in addition to the Spotpass that will allow you to download new players from next June 14 and the Street Pass that allows us to challenge and engage additional opponents.

Inazuma Eleven GO Luce not only renews the gameplay of the trilogy for DS, but also the technical sector.
Level 5 abandons 2D sprites and transforms all game environments into real explorable 3D neighborhoods, from polygonal models framed by a bird's-eye camera.
Many of the scenes of the plot are proposed with the same models, and even the dialogues during the games no longer see the presence of sprites, present only occasionally and representing the player in the challenges.
The 3D effect is not the best and, if active during the aforementioned dialogues, it is possible to experience some drop in frames: however, we must remember that the title is from 2011 and is part of the first games for 3DS, although it only comes to us now. in the west.
The much more accurate animated scenes of the actual anime also return, published a few months after the title's commercial release in Japan (as opposed to what happens in Europe where the title is published only after the end of the episodes of the television series. ) always masterfully dubbed by the best voices even if unfortunately the adaptation of the names of the protagonists dampens the narrative impact making everything much more childish and not very faithful to the original work.

For the record we also focus on the differences between the two versions: as in the previous ones, the main plot will remain the same, instead the mentor (Xavier in Light, Nathan in Shadow) will change eight particular players, two exclusive warrior spirits and finally the team rival of the subplot; for those who have followed the anime of Inazuma Eleven Go, and want the title on which it is based, we recommend the purchase of Luce.

Verdict 8/10 There is 4-5-1 or 4-4-2, but I use a different thing: the 5-5-5. Comment With Inazuma Eleven GO Light / Shadow we are faced with an optimal starting point for those who have never followed the Level 5 series, and with a stylistic and technical renewal that is excellently successful for those who love the Raimon boys from afar 2011 (or even earlier). Although there are still some flaws, the fourth chapter of the football brand entertains and amuses, making it intuitive and suitable for everyone. The optimal title to take under the umbrella this summer and which, once again, will show you the other side of football. Pros and cons Convincing new graphics
Interesting new gameplay mechanics
Well characterized characters x Games in history "less free" than their predecessors
x Little diversified secondary players
x Some frame drops with 3D active
