Tech FRITZ! Repeater 3000: Review - integration is strength

FRITZ! Repeater 3000? In one word, incredible.

We could already close this review of the FRITZ! Repeater 3000. Because now when it comes to AVM there is very little to say: the German company has really understood the market, creating what is a real integrated suite of solutions that covers all knowledge related to the home network. And above all, it covers it in a manner effective, since basically their package is Plug and Play. Connect the device to the socket, follow an absolutely guided and intuitive first configuration and you are operational. Without the need to restart (almost) the device, without problems, without flapping. FRITZ! Repeater 3000 is no exception, so really, there is very little to say in this review. But we will do it anyway ...

FRITZ! Repeater 3000 is one of the easiest repeaters on the market

What is FRITZ! Repeater 3000?

A typical example of a Mesh network

It would be very easy to write down a series of technical information. After all it is what is generally expected in a review, and if you came here it is because you were looking for some impressed on FRITZ! Repeater 3000. But the key word is impression: you don't really care about a datasheet or some tables full of cold numbers, for that just go to the manufacturer's website. In fact, what you are looking for is an interpretation of those numbers. And those numbers say that FRITZ! Repeater 3000 is a wireless repeater (and so far we are) that can also work as an Ethernet bridge, given the two ports with which it is equipped, which thanks to its three antennas can easily extend the WiFi signal of home. Particularly interesting is the fact that it is also equipped with two 5GHz antennas, in addition to 2.4GHz (the “standard” WiFi signal). Translated: If you are playing on an updated model of Xbox One or PlayStation 4, the wireless communication between FRITZ! Repeater 3000 and your console is faster. Alternative to evaluate, if you are unable to connect the machine via Ethernet.

FRITZ! Repeater 3000 is compatible with any router and repeater on the market, but this is where the value added of the AVM suite: the Mesh Network. The devices of the FRITZ! Line simply they talk to each other: in an effective way, in a way that a multi-brand infrastructure built by looking more at savings than effectiveness cannot guarantee. The devices exchange information with each other, optimizing the performance of each individual device and managing in the best possible way the roaming between one area and another. All in a transparent way, since in fact it operates in a single wireless network. All this, automatically and without requiring special configurations, which, in any case, if you want to fiddle with FRITZ! OS, there are.

Rather, the question to ask is "why not?". Yes, FRITZ! Repeater 3000 actually costs more than other models, and AVM itself also offers repeaters at lower price ranges. But precisely, here we are talking about the top of the range: it is the only model of the house that offers two Ethernet ports and, above all, two 5GHz antennas, which guarantee the widest coverage (from the point of view of square footage) of the entire line. It is also the fastest repeater in the suite, guaranteeing more than twice the maximum network speed compared to other models - to be precise, a maximum speed of 3000 Mb / s.

But the real workhorse is theUser Experience: the LEDs of FRITZ! Repeater 3000 help with optimal positioning at home, indicating the strength of the signal received even without having to use the FRITZ! APP Wlan, in any case available for the most demanding users. The configuration is as immediate as possible, given the presence of the WPS button: just press it, and you're done, if the home router (but also the devices to be connected to the repeater) support the function. We tried everything first hand, using this system to connect FRITZ! Repeater 3000 first to the home network, powered by the FRITZ! Box 7530 we have already talked about, and then PlayStation 4 Pro to the repeater.

The only weak point this time is the price. We are in one of the highest ranges of the market, and we are talking about a product that really offers everything possible, apart from the possibility of connecting some storage devices directly via USB (which is however guaranteed by the FRITZ! Box line routers). But AVM has overcome its historical flaw, that of design, by packaging a product with a modern and elegant line that really does not look bad with home furnishings. And given the ease of use, reliability and guaranteed performance, it is really difficult not to recommend FRITZ! Repeater 3000. Especially if you have or plan to purchase a FRITZ! Box at home, since - along the lines of what it does Apple with its lineup - the strength of these solutions lies in the infrastructure. Better yet, inecosystem.

Once you have relied on AVM it is really difficult to go back: who writes to you does not hide that, after having tried the devices firsthand, he quickly converted to cult of FRITZ! Box, buying others and finding themselves often recommending them. Because let's face it, as nice as it can be to design and design your own network, when you return home in the end you simply want everything to work without problems, without forcing us to continuous reboots and configuration changes in the race to understand which band use, whether it is better to use the same SSID (the network name) for all nodes or not etc. We seek reliability and comfort, and AVM products up to now have always guaranteed it. It is no coincidence, though even Eolo relies on an AVM product as a router for its customers.

However, leaving ample room for the geek mood, for those who want to dedicate themselves to it.
