Minecraft review: Story Mode Episode Seven - Access Denied

A little over a month ago we went back up Minecraft: Story Mode, after the surprise announcement of three more episodes that extended the adventures of Jesse and the Order of the Stone by taking them on a journey to the Multiverse. After an episode you are not too convincing and at times boring, from July 27th it is available (via Adventure Pass or individually) "Access Denied”Seventh and penultimate (perhaps) chapter of the series.

Tested Version: PlayStation 4

Also this time there will be Spoilers on the events that happened in the first 6 chapters of Minecraft: Story Mode, in particular on the events of A Portal to Mystery While we will not go into too much detail on the history of Access Denied.

We had left Jesse and buddies in the portal corridor, intent on choosing which one to slip into after the dramatic events of Episode 6. And that's exactly how Access Denied opens, with opening credits showing members of the Order of the Stone traveling between one world and another, in a vain attempt to return home. After a tough fight with Petra, Petra wanders off into a new world, forcing Jesse, Ivor, and Lucas to chase her. This desert universe, however, is different from what has been explored so far, in fact there seems to be no exit portal and our heroes will soon discover why. The world is under the command of an artificial intelligence, which thanks to chips is able to brainwash not only humans, but also the monsters and zombies that populate those lands. PAMA (this is the name of AI) wants to spread to other worlds too, and make everything useful and productive, removing free will. It will obviously be up to Jesse to stop the computer and rescue both his friends and the other prisoners.

The plot of Access Denied offers much more interesting ideas than what we saw in A Portal to Mystery, although there are still no original ideas and the resolution of the whole in the last ten minutes seems quite hasty and placed only to connect everything with the final episode. Luckily there are a couple of compelling moments (including the virtual reality phase), which elevate this seventh episode among the best of the series, along with A Block and an Hard Place (which still remains the highest point of the entire production).

Denying the news

As we highlighted last month, Minecraft: Story Mode begins to suffer the brunt of the episodes, never offering something truly new in terms of gameplay that can tickle the player's attention. In the hour and a half required to complete Access Denied, Jesse will explore two locations with very easy environmental puzzles, and will only use the crafting table once. All the rest of the time there will be uncomplicated dialogue and Quick Time Events that will take the episode's plot towards the predictable final cliffhanger. The audio sector is excellent as usual, while nothing to report as regards the visual one. As with the other six episodes, Access Denied is also available in English only.

Verdict 6.5 / 10 Come with me if you want to live Comment Talking about Access Denied twenty-four hours after praising Telltale for the first episode of Batman is unfair. Taking into account that they are two completely different productions, this seventh episode of Minecraft: Story Mode manages to stand out among the best chapters of the series. Unfortunately, Jesse's adventures continue to trudge, resulting too repetitive in the gameplay and uninteresting in the plot. It remains to be hoped that the eighth episode will give a minimum of grit to the series by closing it (hopefully) with dignity. Pros and cons Good dialogue
More interesting plot
Good dubbing x No major news
